LOCATION: BOSTON MA REGIONAL SERVICE

DUTIES: Responsible for directing the operation of an area performing inspections and running repairs, modifications, and/or light overhauls of cars and locomotives in an operating division. The work scope includes, but is not limited to, numbers of mechanics and electricians using large and small production machinery and moderate quantities of material. A General Foreman typically directs foremen who supervise hourly employees. The General Foreman enforces the corporations rights under collective bargaining agreements. A key function is execution of complex inspection and servicing, requiring imagination, problem-solving, and flexibility, and resulting in work consistent with safety, regulatory, and aesthetic requirements. The ability to schedule human and material resources and direct their efficient application, skillfully communicating specific goals through the chain of command, is critical to success in the position.

Specific responsibilities of the successful incumbent in this position will include daily service and repair operations for Boston locomotives; training of locomotive servicing personnel; recording hours of service for covered personnel; Work Management System (WMS) input of locomotive-related data; point of contact with other Mechanical Department facilities, CNOC, and locomotive maintenance teams; and completion of all MAP forms associated with Boston locomotive servicing.

The incumbent must also exercise basic budgetary skills and cooperate as needed with Transportation and Engineering Department representatives involved in train movement and infrastructure maintenance respectively.

EDUCATION: Must have A.S. Degree in Engineering or Administration or equivalent training and experience; must also have knowledge of accepted industry standards. Prefer B.S. Degree in Engineering, Administration, Economics, or Accounting or completion of a multi-year railway shopcraft apprenticeship.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Must have demonstrated manufacturing experience in transit, railway, or utility service, repair, and maintenance. Must also have management of service and operations with complex collective bargaining agreements, multi-shift supervisory experience, and materials and Quality Assurance management. Prefer knowledge in railway transit rolling stock, contract management or procurement, and applicable areas of AAR, FDA, FTA, and FRA standards.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Drivers license, good attendance record, prior satisfactory job performance, flexibility to be available in emergencies or on varied work schedules.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: Up to 75 employees.

TRAVEL: 5%
