Department & how it relates to the role

The Track Design team within Track Asset leads the development of multifunctional schemes for the national switch and crossing renewal programme. This includes the delivery of S&C feasibility, outline and detailed designs for renewals installed by our contractor delivery teams.

About the role (External)

This senior position will lead a team of S&C designers within the team to deliver allocated designs. He/She will be called upon to act as designer/checker/approver as required.

The successful candidate will be a positive problem solver, they will be committed to excellence, have a proven record of successful delivery, be highly motivated and a team player. They will be an able communicator who can lead and influence a range of people from designers to Professional Heads of Engineering functions within Network Rail and external stakeholders. They will have gained a minimum of 7 years detailed S&C design production experience and 3 years S&C design checking experience ideally with an ability to use and manage the application of industry standard track design systems (e.g. Bentley MXRailTM, Bentley RailtrackTM or similar, Bentley MicrostationTM , ClearouteTM).

A thorough knowledge of current S&C design practices and a good appreciation of track renewals processes/general track engineering is essential. An appreciation of signalling and E&P interface requirements and track maintenance is desirable. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the application of Network Rail standards and procedures in a design environment is essential.

A minimum HNC/HND in an engineering related discipline is required - an engineering degree and /or Chartered status is desirable.
