POSITION SUMMARY:
The Signal Project Engineer interacts with local, state, and federal agencies to procure funding for corridor and individual flasher projects and crossing closures. The selected candidate will manage the plans, estimates and reports for signal projects and ensures contracts are in compliance with signal system.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent
College degree preferred
Roadway Worker qualified

SKILLS:

5 years of experience in railroad signaling operations
Electronics experience
Logistics experience preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships
Knowledge of state and federal guidelines concerning road crossing safety

JOB DUTIES:

Contracts with the state DOT (Department of Transportation) regarding flasher and surface projects
Coordinates with government agencies to appropriately prioritize projects and timelines for crossing service, corridor, and grade crossing projects
Secures local, state, and federal funding for signal, surface, corridor, and closure projects and obtains appropriate reimbursement for parts and labor
Manages crossing participation funds, maintains detailed completion records, and provides reporting
Coordinates project estimates with Engineering, obtains government approval, and arranges timely purchase and delivery of materials
Conducts on-site and final inspections to ensure projects meet state and federal guidelines and communicates results internally and to government agencies
Reviews contracts and requests for utilities to cross the KCS right of way to ensure there is no conflict with railroad operations
Reviews accident results and calculates cost to replace damaged equipment so the appropriate team can determine if an FRA incident has occurred
Assists with implementation of department and corporate safety goals by participating in safety meetings and obtains feedback regarding any safety concerns from government agencies
May serve as an expert witness in court to defend railroad actions related to projects
