Department & how it relates to the role

Infrastructure Projects re-launches as a regionally-based business unit of Network Rail from April 2012. In addition to four regional delivery units, its scope includes a national Signalling division, Thameslink and the Railway Communication System programmes. Its remit is the efficient delivery of renewals and enhancements on our railway through professional control and management of capital projects. Infrastructure Projects is aligned closely to Network Rail’s ten routes to give better coordination across the business and to deliver capital projects efficiently and at best value.

About the role (External)

Job Purpose

To undertake design of signalling systems to meet customer requirements, complying with all technical, safety and quality standards. Undertake on-site correlation of signalling infrastructure and office-based updating/monitoring of records.

Key Accountabilities

• Undertake preparation and monitoring as certified of design details associated with mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic signalling systems as directed.
• Prepare and issue design details and undertake updating of technical records using modern techniques / technology in design as appropriate. Monitor Signalling Assistant Designer activities.
• Assist in activities associated with testing for new or modified systems / installations.
• Provide on-site production/monitoring service including assistance in special investigations
• Undertake site visits for the investigation and resolution of infrastructure design deficiencies and carry out correlation of the signalling infrastructure.
• Deal with technical correspondence, liaise with internal and external customers and attend meetings.

* Undertake specialised investigation / survey / evaluation and production of statistics.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• ONC Electrical Engineering or working towards
• IRSE Designer (S) Licence
• IT Literate (Intermediate)
• CAD Experience
• Communication Skills
• Ability to interface with internal customers as directed by Line Manager

Desirable

• HNC Electrical Engineering
• Correlation Qualification and Experience.
